Summer Sailing 2020
Will you be offering summer sailing this year with COVID-19 restrictions
There are many things your child can do during the summer months. Sailing is a sport that is not only fun, but provides your child with many lifelong skills that helps their holistic development.
Sailing is a sport which naturally separates the children on the water and in fact was ranked as one of the safest sports to practice. As a school, we cannot currently operate following all official rules and guidelines. If the rules are lifted then MYSC wishes to operate, but always under strict rules which will ensure the safety of all children and our coaches.
At this stage we are unaware when we may be permitted to reopen and although we have come up with our own best practices for future operation, we will not publish these until we have better understood recommendations which will be applicable at that time from the authorities.
In the meantime, we wish to open up applications for those who are interested. We will not be providing specific class details and course dates as these may change. We will also not be tying you up to anything if you sign up for summer sailing. It is merely expressing your interest in your young sailor attending.
The benefits of sailing
Malta Young Sailors offers a variety of summer sailing programs for children of different skill levels. Whether a beginner or advanced sailor, summer sailing is not just for keeping them occupied. Summer sailing will fuel your child's interest in sailing.
Making the decision to enroll your child in our summer sailing program at MYSC can be great for both their physical and mental well-being. A few of the many benefits of sailing are:
- responsibility and respect for the environment;
- water safety: how to avoid collisions
- character education: sailing requires perseverance and following rules;
- learn teamwork;
- self-esteem and confidence by piloting their own craft;
- spatial awareness;
- physical coordination;
- important habits: children learn how to keep their boat tidy, how to properly rig and unrig a boat, how to put things away in the right place;
Summer sailing courses usually consist of 18 sessions, twice a week. We have courses for Beginners, Advanced and Racers and the cost for the complete course is EUR360.
We have also offered Windsurfing lessons to and provide 9 lessons, once a week.
